How the copilot follows a Teams interview
Teams plays the interviewer's voice through your computer's speakers or headphones. The copilot desktop app captures that system audio, builds a live transcript that separates the interviewer from you, and recognises when a question has been asked.
For each question it drafts an answer from the resume and job description you loaded before the call. Questions such as "tell me about a time you handled a production issue" come back as a STAR outline with your own project, the action you took and the result, so you are prompted with facts you can speak to confidently.
Teams desktop client vs browser: getting the audio right
Both ways of joining work, but they route audio slightly differently, and that is where most Teams setup issues come from.
In the Teams desktop client, open Settings, then Devices, and check the Speaker field. If it is set to a headset or a monitor's speakers, that is where the interviewer's voice goes, and the copilot needs to capture that output. Picking your default system speaker or headset is the simplest choice.
In a browser (Edge or Chrome), Teams uses the browser's audio, which follows your system default output. Make sure the tab is not muted and that you allowed microphone access for your own voice. Guest links from external recruiters often open in the browser, so test this path too.
- Desktop client: Settings, Devices, Speaker set to the device you will actually listen on.
- Browser: tab not muted, system default output set to your headphones or speakers.
- After plugging in a headset, recheck the device, as Teams may switch automatically.
Setup steps before the call
Run through this list the day before, then again ten minutes before the interview.
- Install the desktop app on Windows or macOS and sign in.
- Add your resume and paste the job description for the role.
- Make a Teams test call (Settings, Devices, Make a test call) and confirm the copilot transcript picks up the playback.
- Position the copilot window near your webcam.
- If you may need to present, plan to share a single window rather than your screen.
Privacy and responsible use
When you share in Teams, choose Window and select only the app you need; sharing a window keeps the copilot private to you. The copilot uses audio only and does not record the interviewer's video. InterviewPlan AI is SOC 2 compliant and unused data is auto-deleted after 90 days.
Some companies state their own rules for interviews, including whether any assistance is allowed. Follow each employer's interview rules. The copilot is designed to help you recall your experience and structure it clearly, and the words you say should be your own.
