How it works on a phone call
The copilot needs to hear the call. There are two practical ways to do that. The first is a VoIP or softphone app on your computer, where the call audio plays through your system output just like a video meeting. The second is putting your mobile on speakerphone close to your computer so the app can pick up the conversation.
Once it hears the call, the copilot transcribes it, labels the recruiter and you as separate speakers, and drafts answers from the resume and job description you loaded. On a phone screen the questions are usually about your background, notice period, salary expectations and motivation, so preparing those facts in your profile helps.
Speakerphone vs VoIP: which to choose
VoIP on the computer usually gives the cleanest transcript because the audio goes straight through your system output. If the recruiter calls your mobile number, ask whether they can use a meeting link instead, or forward the call to a softphone you already use, if that is available to you.
Speakerphone works when you cannot change how the call arrives. Keep the phone close to the computer, sit in a quiet room, and keep the volume high enough that you hear the recruiter clearly. Test this exact arrangement in advance, since phones and rooms vary.
- VoIP or softphone on the computer: best transcript quality.
- Speakerphone: quiet room, phone near the computer, volume up.
- Avoid Bluetooth earbuds paired to the phone, since the copilot then cannot hear the recruiter.
Setup steps
Install the desktop app on Windows or macOS and sign in. Add your resume, the job description and short notes on practical details you may be asked, such as current location and notice period. Then use the free minutes to run a practice call with a friend like Kavya playing the recruiter, using the same phone or VoIP setup you plan to use on the day.
Privacy and responsible use
The copilot uses call audio to produce the transcript and drafts. InterviewPlan AI is SOC 2 compliant and unused data is auto-deleted after 90 days. Recording and consent rules for phone calls vary by location and by company, so follow each employer's interview rules and any instructions the recruiter gives you.
Pricing
Phone screens are often short, so the free plan's 5 live Copilot minutes and 100 AI credits, with no card, are a good way to test. After that Interview Copilot is $5 per hour with 200 AI credits per hour, and hours and credits never expire. Taxes are included, and you can pay through Stripe or bank transfer.
