AWS problems new hires hit in the first 90 days
AWS itself is documented in depth. What is not documented is how your company uses it: the account structure, naming conventions, which teams own which VPCs and which guardrails sit above you in AWS Organizations.
- IAM: AccessDenied errors caused by a missing action, a resource ARN mismatch, a permissions boundary or a service control policy you cannot even see.
- Cross-account access: sts:AssumeRole trust policies, external IDs and role chaining in CI pipelines.
- Networking: security groups versus NACLs, private subnets without a NAT gateway or VPC endpoint, and Route 53 private hosted zones that do not resolve.
- Lambda: timeouts, cold starts, VPC-attached functions that cannot reach the internet, and concurrency limits.
- Containers: ECS tasks failing target group health checks, ECR pull errors and wrong task role versus execution role.
- Infrastructure as code: CloudFormation stacks in UPDATE_ROLLBACK_FAILED, Terraform state drift and CDK diffs that replace resources unexpectedly.
Observability, cost and change management
Early tickets often involve CloudWatch alarms that fire too often, Logs Insights queries you need to write from scratch, or an S3 bucket policy that blocks a partner. Job Support helps you build the query, read the policy and decide on the smallest safe change.
Cost questions arrive quickly too. You can work through Cost Explorer views, spot idle resources and explain trade-offs such as gp3 versus gp2 volumes or Savings Plans, so your recommendation in the weekly review is grounded.
What an AWS support session looks like
Priya moves from support into a cloud engineering role at Wipro, working on a US healthcare client's AWS estate. A GitHub Actions deployment fails with AccessDenied on s3:PutObject. In a Job Support session she reads the redacted error, the role's policy and the bucket policy, finds that the bucket requires KMS encryption the role cannot use, and writes the policy change for her lead to review.
During the change advisory call on Teams she uses the live transcript to follow questions from the client's security team and explains the change herself.
Using AWS job support responsibly
Cloud work carries real risk, so responsible use matters more here than almost anywhere.
- Never share AWS access keys, console passwords, MFA codes or SSO sessions with anyone.
- Redact account IDs, ARNs and resource names if your employer or client treats them as sensitive.
- Follow your change management process; make changes yourself, in the approved window, with review.
- Respect your employer's policy on sharing infrastructure code with outside tools.
