Azure problems new hires hit in the first 90 days
Azure is tightly tied to identity. Most early blockers are about who or what is allowed to do something, at which scope, and which policy is quietly denying it.
- RBAC: AuthorizationFailed errors because a role is assigned at the wrong scope, or because Owner on a resource group is not enough to manage a role assignment elsewhere.
- Entra ID: app registrations, service principals, API permissions that need admin consent, and conditional access blocking a pipeline.
- Managed identities: system-assigned versus user-assigned, and apps that cannot read Key Vault because the vault uses RBAC while the team expected access policies.
- Deployments: Bicep or ARM template validation errors, what-if output that looks alarming, and Azure Policy denying a resource for missing tags or a disallowed region.
- Networking: NSG rules, private endpoints and private DNS zones that break name resolution, and App Service VNet integration.
- Azure DevOps: YAML pipelines, service connections, variable groups linked to Key Vault and agents that cannot reach a private resource.
Platform services you will touch
Typical early work spans App Service and deployment slots, Azure Functions with storage and trigger bindings, AKS clusters, Azure SQL and Cosmos DB, and Azure Monitor with Log Analytics. Job Support helps you write a KQL query to find failing requests, read Application Insights traces and understand why a slot swap changed an app setting.
Many teams in India support European or US clients on Azure, so you also join long calls with architects and security reviewers. Following those calls and preparing clear answers is part of the job.
What an Azure support session looks like
Arjun joins an Accenture team running Azure for a European manufacturer. His Function App returns 403 when reading a secret. In a Job Support session he reviews the redacted error and the vault settings, sees the vault uses Azure RBAC so the old access policy does nothing, and prepares a Key Vault Secrets User role assignment for the function's managed identity, which his lead approves.
During the weekly Teams review he follows the client's security questions in the live transcript and explains least-privilege access in his own words.
Using Azure job support responsibly
Treat cloud access with care, and keep yourself in control of every change.
- Never share Azure portal, Entra ID, Azure DevOps or VPN credentials, MFA prompts or client secrets.
- Redact subscription IDs, tenant IDs and resource names if your client treats them as confidential.
- Make changes yourself through approved pipelines and change windows.
- Follow your employer's rules on what code and configuration you may share externally.
